Judge Mackey moved to Prescott in 1986 and worked in private practice initially.  He took a position as a prosecutor in the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office in 1988 where he prosecuted serious crimes including first degree murder and sexual crimes against women and children.

He was appointed as a Superior Court Judge in 2002.  During his 17 years on the Yavapai County Superior Court he has presided over every type of case heard by the Court.  However, he lists his assignment of probate cases as the cases he truly enjoys.

In January 2011, he was appointed as the Presiding Judge for Yavapai County.  As Presiding Judge, he has administrative duties over all the Courts in Yavapai County including the Superior Court, Justice Courts and Municipal Courts.

Judge Mackey is married to Peggy.  They have three children and four grandchildren.  He was born in Phoenix and proud to be a native of Arizona.  He attended Northern Arizona University for his undergraduate degree and the University of Arizona School of Law for his law degree.  Go Wildcats!

In addition to his local judicial duties, he currently serves as the Chairman of the Arizona Supreme Court’s Committee on Superior Court and is a member of the Arizona Judicial Council.  He also is currently serving on the Statewide Task Force On The Arizona Rules of Probate Procedure which is filing a Rules Petition for changes to the Probate Rules this month.  He has served on the last two statewide committees that initially drafted the Probate Rules in 2008 and modified them in 2012.
